Week 1 - Back to Nature - August 3 - 7
Spend a week in the garden, learning about butterflies, worms, and other creatures that we'll discover. Learn about the life of a seed, how to make your own soil, and how to plant and care for a garden. Explore the wonders that our planet holds, from the mountains to the sea, within our islands and beyond. Activities will include a garden scavenger hunt, life cycle discussions, compost pile building, and garden planting, plus lots of art activities to nurture the creative mind.
Week 2 - The Human Footprint - August 10 - 14
Let's take a closer look at the choices we make every day. From energy and water use to the clothes we wear and the foods we eat, each of us has an impact on our planet. Activities for this week include papermaking and natural dyes, making and cooking with a solar oven and solar dehydrator, and redesigning old t-shirts into reusable bags or unique works of wearable art! Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and how to be better stewards of the Earth.
Daily activities include guided exploration and hands-on learning activities, arts & crafts, games, snack and lunchtime. Each week will culminate with a special celebration where we'll treat the kids to a fun and memorable cooking class, focusing on healthy local foods and waste-free meals!
The Green House Staff: Four, first-aid trained, adult supervisors will be on hand at all times to create a safe and fun learning environment for students. Children will be grouped with their peers for participation in age-appropriate activities.

Days: Monday through Friday
Cost: $150 per child per week, due upon registration confirmation

We began our garden series last year with a wonderful group of people all eager to begin the process of turning their lanai or yard into a garden of delights. In March we covered garden buddies and pests. Our series continues this month as we explore plants, planting techniques, ground preparation, and garden care. We also encourage you to bring seeds, plants and cuttings to share. By sharing knowledge and our bounty we can rebuild our communities one garden at a time. Dinner prepared using organic, local, "low mileage" food by Chef Raul Bernal
We will be meeting again at Pauoa School Cafeteria; please bring a cup, bowl, plate, silverware and napkin. Your food waste will be donated to our hungry worms. Your waste will soon be fresh compost for another garden...

We began our garden series last year with a wonderful group of people all eager to begin the process of turning their lanai or yard into a garden of delights. Last month we covered seeds and sprouts. Our series continues this month as we explore plants that like each other and creatures that can help your garden, plus the pesky pests we love to hate and how to rid ourselves of them naturally. We also encourage you to bring seeds, plants and cuttings to share. By sharing our knowledge and bounty we can rebuild our communities one garden at a time. The word "macrobiotic" comes from the Greek and essentially means "long life" or "great life." In this in-depth lecture/cooking series, Macrobiotic Chef Kathy Maddux will share her knowledge on ways to enhance the health of the major organs of the body.
